I like to highlight the good that is being done in the world. With so much focus on the horrible people and horrible things happening in our world today taking up all the time on news, I thought I would start bringing to light the wonderful people doing magnificent things to make our world a better place. First up is the lovely Pushpa Basnet from Nepal. She was CNN’s hero of the year for 2012. At just 21 years old she started her journey to save children in Nepal from spending their childhood behind bars. In Nepal, adults being incarcerated had to choose between bringing their children with them to prison or leaving them to live on the streets if there were no other legal guardians to take care of them. Pushpa was having none of it. Please take a moment and read her remarkable story here.

Bring on 2012! Very excited for this upcoming year! Hope all of you had a lovely holiday and I wish you all a fantastic year ahead. We were away in Egypt taking in some much needed sunshine! It was glorious. Now back to the grime. This year I will be getting back into blogging about all of the things I love. I’ll also be blogging for Kids Company, a London charity, which I’m really excited about. Here are a few pics from our holidays! Send you lots of love x

Giving Thanks

Lunalu's Diary: Giving Thanks

One of the things I love about being a Mama is that I get to make up our own family traditions. One of which is to give thanks to the local police and firemen every year. This year we’ll be making yummy white oreo truffles and chocolate chip cookies (4 dozen!!) to give to them. I’ve also asked the nursery where Luna attends to get the kids to make cards/pictures for them. I take any opportunity I can to teach Luna about the importance of giving and this is just one way where it can also be fun and interactive. I encourage you guys to do something with your little ones to give back to the community in this time of thanks/holiday. Get your aprons on and have a fun messy time with the kids in the spirit of giving.

Tis The Season for Giving

Lunalu's Diary: Tis The Season for Giving

As you are aware, Little Lunalu is heavily involved in working with charity through our Lunalu Foundation. We give 5% of our sales (not profit which makes us unlike everyone else!) On a more personal level, I am involved with a great organization called Kids Company. This is something I’m doing outside of the Lunalu Foundation. Being that it’s the holiday season, I wanted to mention that it’s a great time to give back to the universe. It doesn’t have to be in monetary form. You can donate your time or expertise! There are loads of ways to help out.

Our family believes in the importance of involving even the little ones in the family. We try to teach Luna the importance of giving to others and this year we’ll let her be apart of it! She is going to pick some presents to donate to needy children.

We hope that you guys will try do something for someone else in the spirit of the season. Spread the LOVE! xo

We absolutely love LemLem, a brand by Liya Kebede. They only do children’s collections for Spring/Summer so be sure to snatch up some goodies this season!

About Lemlem:
Lemlem n 1 hand made in Ethiopia from natural cotton. /lem:lem v 2 [Amharic] bloom, flourish. 3 [history] Since ancient times in the land of the Queen of Sheba, the Ethiopian people have adorned themselves in beautiful hand woven and hand embroidered clothing. The hand spinning of cotton and intricate embroidery was the work of women while the hand weaving was done mainly by men. It is our wish to bring to you an incredible handwork and help preserve this ancient art form by creating opportunities for the Artisans. Because many of our pieces are hand woven and hand spun, natural variances may occur adding to their uniqueness and beauty.
